Suspension & Steering at Johnny's Automotive
Springs carry, dampers control, bushings locate, steering points. When one of them quits doing its job, your tires stop gripping. That is what we repair.
What is your suspension actually doing back there?
Suspension is a traction system first and a comfort system second. Everything your car does, braking, steering, accelerating, happens through four patches of rubber about the size of your hand. The suspension's whole job is keeping those patches pressed against the pavement over bumps, dips and railroad crossings. When it stops doing that well, the car doesn't just ride rougher. It takes longer to stop and it gets less honest about following the wheel.
In plain words, the springs carry the weight of the car. The shocks or struts control what the springs do next, so the body settles once instead of bouncing three times. Control arms, links and bushings hold every piece in its correct place while the wheel travels up and down. The steering rack and tie rods point the front wheels where you aimed them. Take one of those jobs away and the remaining parts start doing work they were never designed to do.
The tricky part is that suspension wear arrives slowly. Nothing breaks on a Tuesday. Bushings soften over years, dampers lose their grip on the motion a little at a time, and you adapt to all of it without noticing, right up until you drive a newer version of your own car and wonder why it feels so planted.
Repairs on this side of the shop cover a wide range. Sometimes it's one sway bar link. Sometimes it's a full corner: strut, control arm, bearing, and an alignment to finish. If you're still at the stage of hearing a noise you can't name yet, that's a diagnostic visit rather than a repair estimate, and we'll start there instead of guessing at parts.
Brian and Johnny opened this business in 2006 out of a race car garage, and suspension is where race car people live. That way of thinking about grip never left the building.
Why choose Johnny's Automotive for suspension & steering
We are your trusted partner for all suspension & steering needs.
This is where the shop started
Brian and Johnny opened in 2006 in a race car garage, and suspension is the corner of the car race builders think about hardest. Handling work isn't a sideline we added later.
You see what the technician sees
Our digital inspections send photos straight to your phone, so a torn bushing or a worn joint is something you can look at yourself instead of a line on an invoice you have to take on faith.
The alignment happens here
Suspension repair and the alignment that follows it happen in the same visit under the same roof. You don't leave with a fresh part and a second appointment somewhere else.

1st time, made appt. via phone for wheel alignment, was able to get in same day. Upon arrival, was greeted in a friendly business like attitude. Before repairs made was shown print out and explained was was to be done. Answered all my questions to my satisfaction. Did take a little longer than expected but the waiting room was very comfortable which negated the time. When finished I was surprised to see a rose on the steering wheel when I left. Made my wife happy that I thought of her when I got home. I like doing business with locally owned businesses... Johnny's is more than an auto repair shop, they're a neighbor.

Had an early morning nail in tire on the way out of town for a baseball tournament. Sensor light kept us from getting on SR 60 with confidence. Did a quick U-turn to hopefully find a nearby open garage at 7:15 am. Johnny's was rolling up their doors before 7:30 a.m. MJ got us fixed up in under 5 minutes. The stars aligned & we are SO VERY GRATEFUL for establishments like this!!! We will be on time to our game in Ft. Pierce! Thank you MJ!!!!

They saved us and took us in immediately when my husband accidentally drove over a shredded tire on the road during our trip to Sarasota with our dog and toddler. They were super friendly and quick. Thank you again!

Thrilled with the service received, from the initial call to Jeffrey who had top notch customer service, to the fact that I anticipated having to spend a few $100 to fix a loud noise coming from front end suspension but it ended up only being a magnetic ball that I had dropped in the hood while working on something previously. The honesty is extremely commendable! This is the place to go for all of your automotive needs!

Our out-of-town quests ended up with a slow leak in a tire. Johnny's said bring it in. We were in and out of there in 10 minutes! They charged nothing for the repair. Great people!

Suspension & Steering questions, answered
Common questions about our suspension & steering services.
Do I have to fix everything at once?
Almost never. We separate what's affecting safety and tire wear right now from what's simply getting older, and we quote it that way. Plenty of customers do a corner now and the other side later, and that's a fine plan as long as you know which pieces are which.
How do you decide what actually needs replacing?
We load the suspension on the lift, check each part for movement it shouldn't have, and read the tire wear on that corner as evidence. Then we compare what we found against what you told us the car is doing. If a part is worn but not causing your complaint, we say so.
Will new suspension parts make my car ride like new?
Usually the car feels more settled and more predictable, which is the part most people notice first. It won't change the ride your car was designed to have, and it can't fix ride problems that are really tire or wheel problems. We'll tell you which one you have before you spend anything.
Do I need an alignment after suspension work?
If the repair changed anything that sets wheel angles, yes, and we do that alignment here rather than sending you somewhere else. Some jobs, like a sway bar link, don't disturb the geometry at all and don't require one. We'll say which category your repair falls into when we quote it.
Which of your shops should I bring it to?
Whichever one is easiest for you. We're in Haines City, Winter Haven, Lake Wales, Frostproof, Sebring and Wauchula, and suspension and steering work is handled at all of them.
