What We Found

What Causes a Car to Run Rough Despite Exhaust Repair?

The Problem

The vehicle owner reported that the check engine light was on and the car was running rough, despite a previous diagnosis of an exhaust leak.

What We Found

The technician found that in addition to the exhaust issue, there were multiple underlying problems including an oil leak and a faulty ABS wheel speed sensor.

The Fix

The team performed a thorough tune-up of the 4-cylinder engine, replaced the engine oil cooler gasket to fix the oil leak, and replaced the exhaust crossover pipe. Additionally, they addressed the ABS issue by replacing the right front wheel speed sensor and performed a final road test.

The Result

The vehicle ran smoothly after the repairs, with the check engine light off and improved overall performance.

Pro Tip

If your car is running rough even after an exhaust repair, consider a comprehensive tune-up. It might reveal other issues like oil leaks or sensor problems that could be contributing to the rough performance.

What Sebring customers say about our preventive maintenance work

The BEST experience I have ever had with a car repair shop! Their customer service exceeded all expectations from the time I came in to explain my issues with my vehicle, to the timing of the inspection, and the estimate. They were ALL super friendly and professional! I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone in need of auto care because, they DO care! Oh, and I cannot forget the red roses in my steering wheel...nice touch, Johnny's!!! 😃

The guys Jeff and his assistant are wonderful. They are very knowledgeable and kept us informed of what was needed for our vehicle. We really felt like they cared about our car and treated us with respect as valued customers. They kept us informed of the status of our car without having to chase them down like at other mechanic/repair shops. In addition, Jeff and his staff even gave us a loaner car until the repairs were completed on our car. We will definitely come back for maintenance and any time we have car issues. This shop has been around for six years and is clean, have rest rooms, and snacks for their customers( which my husband loves to indulge ever time we visit). WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND BRINGING YOUR VEHICLE HERE!

Took my car to Johnny’s for regular maintenance, they were thorough, reasonable, and quick. Jeff was amazing, customer service was great, the facility is clean and not like any other shop I’ve been to. Highly recommended!

Very trustworthy. Prices are equal to or slightly less than what I would pay for the same maintenance or repair service at a dealership. However, the positive difference in the attitude of their customer people, and their efficient and immaculate business environment, their customer service amenities in the waiting room, and the overall verifiable, concrete evidence of a strong customer focus ethic - all go together to make Johnny's my maintenance and repair shop of choice, whether it is my 13-year-old car, or my 2-year-old's car. They make what could potentially be a very unpleasant experience, just the opposite. Kudos to the manager and all those who work there, from the mechanics to the customer service desk. Excellent place, staffed by people who take excellence seriously.

FAQ

Preventive Maintenance in Sebring: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Sebring.

How do I know what my car actually needs right now?

Give us the year, make, model, and mileage and we'll pull up the schedule your manufacturer published for that car. That tells us what's due by the book. The digital inspection tells us the rest, because a photo of your actual filter or fluid beats a guess every time.

Do I have to go to the dealer to keep my factory warranty?

No. You can have your scheduled maintenance done at an independent shop like ours without giving up your factory warranty. What matters is that the work follows the manufacturer's schedule and that you keep the records. We document what we did, when, and at what mileage, so you have the paperwork if anyone ever asks for it.

What is severe service, and does Florida driving count?

Most owner's manuals list two schedules, normal and severe. Severe covers short trips, stop and go traffic, heat, dust, and towing, and a lot of Central Florida driving lands in that column. It doesn't move every interval up, but it does move a few, and we'll point out which ones apply to how you actually drive.

Can you set up a maintenance schedule for me?

Yes. We'll build it off your manufacturer's intervals and how you use the car, then keep it in your file so each visit picks up where the last one left off. You'll know what's coming next and roughly when, instead of finding out at the counter.

What happens if you find something during a maintenance visit?

We photograph it, send it to your phone, and tell you whether it needs doing now or can wait. Plenty of things can wait, and we'd rather say that than sell you a service you don't need yet. Nothing gets done without you saying yes to it first.
