90000 Mile Service in Sebring: what you need to know

This is the interval people brace for, and there is a real reason for it. On a lot of engines, the manufacturer scheduled the big items right about here.

The honest framing. The 90,000 mile service tends to cost more than the ones before it because of what is on the schedule, not because a shop decided to pad it. Spark plugs commonly come due somewhere in this neighborhood on many engines. Timing belts are frequently scheduled in this range on the engines that use one, and plenty of engines use a chain instead and have no belt interval at all. Fluids that were serviced at 60,000 are not back yet on most vehicles, and other items come around for the first time. Which of those apply to you depends entirely on your engine, so we look it up before we say a number.

Timing belt or timing chain. It is worth knowing which one you have, because the answer changes this visit completely. If your engine uses a belt and the manufacturer schedules it near this mileage, doing it on time is straightforward planned work. It is also the natural moment to look at the water pump and tensioners that live behind the same cover, since the labor to reach them is already being done. If your engine uses a chain, that whole line item disappears and this becomes a much smaller visit.

What you get from us. A clear explanation of what your manual calls for at 90,000 miles, what it does not, and what we found while we were in there. ASE certified technicians doing the work, and a 36 month, 36,000 mile nationwide warranty behind it. If you are going to spend real money at one interval, this is usually the one, and you should know exactly what you are buying.

FAQ

90000 Mile Service in Sebring: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Sebring.

Does my engine even have a timing belt?

Many modern engines use a timing chain, which is not on a replacement schedule the way a belt is. We check by engine, not by badge, since the same model can be sold with either. If yours has a chain, this visit gets a lot simpler.

What happens if a timing belt is left too long?

On some engines a broken belt means the car stops and gets towed. On what are called interference engines, the valves and pistons can contact each other and the repair gets significantly larger. That is why manufacturers put a mileage on it, and why we would rather do it as planned work.

Can I split the 90,000 mile service across two visits?

Yes, and a lot of people do. We will tell you which items are time sensitive and which can sit for a few months without risk. What we will not do is quietly shuffle something important into the later pile to make a quote look smaller.

What parts do you use for the bigger jobs?

For work like timing components and plugs we use original equipment or equivalent quality parts, because the labor is the expensive half and nobody wants to do it twice. If there is a meaningful choice between options, we will explain the difference and let you pick.

How do you know what is actually due for my car?

We look up the maintenance schedule for your specific year, make and engine, then compare it against what we can see and measure on the vehicle. Those two things together are the quote. Anything that is not on either list does not end up on your bill.
