Why Are My ABS and TPMS Lights On Simultaneously?

The technician discovered that both front ABS wheel speed sensors had failed, which was causing the ABS light to activate. Can I just ignore the TPMS light?

How long do TPMS sensors last?
Years, but not forever. The battery is sealed in the sensor and it runs down over time, and they usually start failing one at a time as a set gets older. There's no way to know the exact day, so we test them rather than guess.
Can the battery in a sensor be replaced?
No. It's sealed inside a molded housing, so replacing a dead sensor means a new sensor, not a new battery. Anyone who tells you otherwise is describing something these parts don't do.
Do I need new sensors every time I buy tires?
No. Working sensors go right back in. What does get replaced at mounting is the service kit: the seals, grommet, and valve hardware around the sensor, since reusing those is how a slow leak starts.
Why does the system need a relearn?
The car has to know which sensor is at which corner, and that mapping changes when wheels move or sensors are replaced. The procedure differs by make and model, and some vehicles handle it on their own after a short drive.
