What does my car actually need at this mileage?

Give us the year, make, model, and the number on your odometer. We pull the factory maintenance schedule for that exact vehicle and quote what's on it at that mileage. Not a package we invented, not a list with extras tucked in. The manufacturer's list.

Some visits that's a short list: an oil and filter service, a tire rotation, a look at fluid levels and condition. Other visits land on a bigger milestone with spark plugs, filters, a transmission or brake fluid service, belts and hoses inspected. The mileage decides what's on the list, and we do what's on it.

Two things worth saying plainly. First, you don't have to go back to a dealer to keep a factory warranty intact. An independent shop can perform your scheduled maintenance, as long as the work the schedule calls for actually gets done and the records are kept. We document what was performed, on what date, at what mileage, so you have the paperwork if anyone ever asks to see it.

Second, most factory schedules have two columns: normal service and severe service. Severe usually covers short trips, stop and go traffic, sustained heat, towing, and dusty conditions. Look honestly at how a lot of us drive around here, short runs across town with the air conditioning working the whole time, and the severe column is the realistic one for plenty of vehicles. We'll show you both and let you decide, rather than quietly billing one and calling it the schedule.

You leave with the factory list done, a record of it, and a heads up on what's due at the next milestone so you can plan for it instead of absorbing it in one week.

While staying in Frostproof, Johnny's opened up here. I needed an oil change and filter, and they completed that service along with a maintenance check. They made some recommendations, but didn't pressure me to have the work performed. Thankfully, the recommendations were for scheduled maintenance such as brakes and filters. They are so friendly and helpful, (especially Sarah who greets you with the greatest smile!), have provided the residents of Frostproof with a reliable and honest service. Thank you!

Oil change appointment went well. Started within 5 minutes of the appointment time. Even said hi to my golden retriever. Another time I had a slow leak on a tire. Dealer wouldn't repair it even thogh it wasn't on the sidewall but in the tread. Elrod fixed it without an appointment. After it was fixed and I paid the bill I offered $10 cash tip to the actual mechanic but I didn't have cash and said I will be back. I came back with the cash 2 days later after I finally went to the ATM. It is still holding 2 years later. Day after Thanksgiving I plan on making an oil change appointment. I recommend them.

My 2018 Subaru Forester had begun to stall out at unexpected times, and despite many attempts to resolve the issue on my own, nothing seemed to work. Anticipating a very high bill for repairs, I decided to try Johnny's Automotive before taking the vehicle to the service department at the dealership for what I knew would be a VERY expensive repair plus sales pitches for all kinds of other issues presented as urgent matters. Well, to my surprise and delight, Johnny's was able to make the repair for a very affordable price. Most of my issues were related to squirrels who had managed to infiltrate the electrical system of the car and chew through a number of wires. Because of Johnny's pledge not to rip its customers off, I decided to have them to do an oil change (cheaper than even all of those quick oil change shops that pop up along major highways) and add refrigerant to my AC which had not been cooling as efficiently as before. Johnny's is now my "go-to" service facility when my vehicle requires some TLC. I highly recommend Johnny's Automotive!!! UPDATE: Johnny's Automotive of Lake Wales continues to please! This time--December 30, 2024--I took my Subaru in for an oil change and tire rotation, along with a request for an analysis for an electronic problem. Great service along with gracious employees make for a wonderful experience. As my vehicle is getting a little age on it, there were other services that should be performed in the near future. The personnel there explained those recommendations clearly. After I "recover" from my holiday spending spree, I'll definitely take it back for those services to be performed. Unless Johnny's is ever "stumped" over a problem--which, really, I don't anticipate--I am hoping never to take my vehicle to the dealership's service center again! I trust Johnny's to be honest about any problems they diagnose, along with accurate quotes about pricing to resolve those problems--without extraneous "upsell" speeches, like one gets at dealership service centers!

It was time for an oil change on my Honda Odyssey so of course I call Johnny's automotive. I set up an appointment which was for the next day. Their service is very professional and the mechanic did a vehicle inspection while doing the oil change and informed me of a couple of things that I should take care of. I would recommend Johnny's automotive to anyone wanting a professional service at a fair price.

Factory Scheduled Maintenance questions, answered

Common questions about our factory scheduled maintenance.

Will having this done here affect my factory warranty?

No. You can have scheduled maintenance performed at an independent shop and keep your factory warranty, provided the required work is actually done and you can show it. We give you a record of what was performed, the date, and the mileage. Keep those with your paperwork and you're covered on the documentation side.

How is this different from just getting an oil change?

An oil service is one item that happens to come up often. Factory scheduled maintenance is the whole list your manufacturer set for that mileage, which can include filters, fluid services, plugs, and specific inspections. Some visits the two look nearly identical, other visits the list is considerably longer.

I have no service records at all. Where do we start?

With the odometer. We look at what the schedule says should have been done by now, inspect the condition of the items we can actually see and measure, and build a catch up list from there. You don't have to do it all at once.

Do I have to do everything on the list in one visit?

No. We'll walk the list with you and separate what's genuinely due now from what can wait until the next visit, and you decide from there. Spreading it out over a couple of visits is a normal way to handle a big milestone.

Do you use the fluids and parts my manufacturer specifies?

Yes. Modern transmissions, cooling systems, and engines are particular about fluid specifications, and using the wrong one can cause real problems later. We match what your vehicle calls for and note it on your record.

Where we work
