What Caused the Rear Tire Wear and Bumpy Ride?

The Problem

The vehicle owner noticed that the front tires had little to no tread, and the rear tires experienced premature wear, making the ride bumpy over uneven surfaces.

What We Found

The technician found that the rear shock absorbers had failed, contributing to the premature wear of the rear tires. Additionally, the front lower control arm with ball joint was cracked and torn.

The Fix

The team at our Lake Wales shop replaced all four tires, ensuring safe tread levels. They also replaced the failed rear shock absorbers and the damaged front lower control arms with ball joints. These repairs were followed by a thorough road test to verify the effectiveness of the repairs.

The Result

The vehicle was restored to a smooth ride with improved handling and safety.

Pro Tip

Shock absorbers that fail can lead to uneven tire wear and a bumpy ride. Replacing them promptly can prevent further damage and ensure a smoother driving experience.

The Fix

The team removed and replaced the leaking rear shock absorber. They ensured all components were properly installed and performed a final road test to verify the repair.

The Result

The suspension issue was resolved, and the vehicle's handling and tire wear returned to normal.

Pro Tip

Leaking shock absorbers can lead to uneven tire wear and poor handling. Replacing them promptly can save you from needing new tires sooner than expected.

FAQ

Shock And Strut Replacement in Lake Wales: questions answered

Answered by our licensed technicians serving Lake Wales.

Is there a mileage where shocks and struts should be replaced?

There isn't an honest universal number, and we're not going to invent one for you. Road quality, how much weight the vehicle carries and how it's driven all change the answer. We judge it on condition: leakage, mount damage, how the strut behaves through its travel and what the tires on that corner look like.

Can I just replace the one that's leaking?

Physically yes, but we don't recommend it. The other side of that axle has the same miles and the same wear, so a new damper next to a tired one makes the car respond unevenly side to side. Doing the pair also means the labor gets done once.

What is a loaded or quick strut, and is it a good idea?

It's a preassembled unit with the strut, spring and mount already together. It usually costs a bit more in parts and less in labor, and it replaces the mount and spring that have been aging right alongside the strut. On some vehicles it's clearly the better value, on others it isn't, and we'll tell you which one you're looking at.

Will new struts fix my rough ride?

If the roughness comes from the car never settling, yes, that's exactly what dampers do. If it comes from overinflated tires, a stiff tire choice or a bent wheel, new struts won't touch it. We check those first so you're not buying parts for the wrong problem.
