Engine repair covers a lot of ground, and almost all of it starts with the same question: what is actually wrong? An engine that misfires, idles rough, burns oil, or makes a noise you have not heard before is telling you something. Our job is to read that correctly before anyone starts replacing parts.

So we diagnose first. That means pulling codes, but a code points at a system, not at a part. A misfire code on cylinder three tells us which cylinder, not whether the cause is a coil, a plug, an injector, a vacuum leak, or low compression in that hole. Fuel trims, compression, spark, vacuum, and watching what the engine does under load will separate those in a way a code reader on its own never can.

Oil leaks work the same way. Oil runs downhill before it drips, so where it lands is rarely where it came from. A valve cover gasket, a rear main seal, and an oil cooler line can all leave the same spot on your driveway, and they are three very different repairs. We clean the area, run the engine, and confirm the source before we quote anything.

Noises get sorted by where they come from and when they show up. A tick that only appears on a cold morning is a different conversation from a knock that gets louder with rpm, and the second one we want to look at sooner.

A couple of engine problems have their own diagnostic path and their own pages: head gaskets and timing components. If your symptoms point that direction, we will tell you and take it there.

Most engines that come through our bays get repaired, not replaced. Replacement only enters the conversation when the cost of the repair stops making sense against what the vehicle is worth to you, and that is a decision we walk through with you rather than make for you.
