Heat is harder on a battery than cold is. Cold weather gets the blame because that is when a weak battery finally refuses to start the car, but the damage usually happened months earlier, in July. Under the hood in Central Florida a battery spends most of the year at temperatures that speed up the chemistry inside it, evaporate fluid out of the cells, and build sulfate on the plates. Sulfate is the chalky layer that keeps a battery from accepting and holding a full charge. So a battery down here can look fine on a mild morning and still be well past its useful life.
Testing tells us more than age does. We load test the battery and watch what the voltage actually does under demand, check state of charge, and see how it behaves with the engine running and after the car has been sitting. Then we pull the terminals, clean the posts and clamps, and look at the white or green crust that quietly adds resistance to every circuit the battery feeds. A loose or corroded connection can act exactly like a dead battery, and it costs nothing to rule out.
Here is the part that saves people money. A battery that keeps dying is often not the problem. If the charging system is not putting voltage back in, a brand new battery will die the same way in a few weeks. If something in the car is drawing current after you shut it off, same result. So before we sell you a battery, we check charging output and look for a drain. Sometimes the answer really is a battery. Sometimes it is a charging or wiring issue, and a new battery would only have reset the clock on the same complaint. Either way you get the test numbers and the inspection photos on your phone, so you can see what we saw.

Went in for my oil change. They also check out the whole car and as it turned out my battery was low. They asked me if I wanted to change it and of course I said yes because it was 4 1/2 years old. They ask you if you want things done and not just do it to increase you bill. I am very satisfied with the service that I receive from Johnny's Automotive!

Our car was in need of service, tire rotation, battery, oil change, checking air etc. Since I had gotten brakes, rotors, new tires at Johnny's last year on the recommendation of our neighbors and was very impressed with their service, I did not hesitate to go back to the same establishment. The place is spotless! I was greeted by Mark, such a pleasant man! He had to leave while I was waiting for our car, and he left me in the very capable hands of Sarah. There are no words to express how amazing she is...I came home and related my experience to my husband (who recently had a stroke, which leave me to take care of most things now). Needless to say, I do not know much about cars, but Sarah patiently explained everything in detail and even showed me photos, so that I could better comprehend what was needed. By the time I left Johnny's, I was truly grateful for what they did for us. I wish I could rate them ten stars! Thank You So much!

I went to Johnnys because of a battery concern on my Mercedes a 220. Mike quickly wrote up my concern and dispatch the car to Edgar. They quickly proceeded to do a safety inspection as well as diagnose the problem being a secondary battery. Part was ordered and replaced in a very timely manner. Price was very competitive and a lot Less than Mercedes-Benz had quoted. Beautiful shop great people. Technicians know their business highly recommend them!!
