Start with how long you intend to keep the vehicle and what the rest of it looks like. Remanufactured is the lower risk option at a higher price, used is the reverse, and both are legitimate depending on your plan. We lay out what each one includes and you choose.

Because debris from the failure is sitting in the cooler and the lines, and new fluid will carry it straight into the new unit. Flushing or replacing those parts is not an add-on, it's part of doing the job in a way that lasts.

On most modern vehicles, yes. The control module has adaptive settings learned from the old unit, and those have to be reset or the new transmission gets driven by the wrong instructions. Some vehicles also need the module coded to the new unit before it will shift correctly.

Usually we'd rather you didn't. Driving a failing transmission spreads debris and can turn a repairable unit into a replacement. Tell us what it's doing and we'll give you a straight answer, and if it needs a tow we'll say that instead of hoping it makes the trip.
